About this opportunity

<p>The Singapore Astronomy Olympiad (SAO) is the national selection competition for the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA). Organised by Astronomy.SG, it tests students across physics, mathematics, and astronomy through two progressive rounds.</p><ul><li>Round 1 (open to all students under 20): 9 March 2026, 16:00–18:00, computerised 50-question MCQ quiz held in schools or at a centralised testing facility.</li><li>Round 2 (by invitation only): 14 March 2026, 08:00–16:30 at Hwa Chong Institution, combining short/long answer, data analysis, and practical/observational components.</li><li>Eligibility: under 20 years of age as of 1 July, and not above Grade 12 or equivalent.</li><li>Top 5 gold medallists form Team Singapore for the IOAA; only Singapore citizens and PRs are eligible for IOAA national representation.</li><li>Free revision resources and past papers are available on the Astronomy.SG website.</li></ul><p>Singapore's 2025 team won 4 gold and 1 bronze at the 18th IOAA in Mumbai — the country's strongest showing in nearly 20 years.</p>
