<p>The Singapore Biology Olympiad (SBO) is a national biology competition run by the Singapore Institute of Biology (SIBiol) with support from the Ministry of Education, NUS and NIE. Held annually since 2000, it targets Singapore's top junior-college biology students, with medallists forming the pool from which Team Singapore is selected for the International Biology Olympiad (IBO).</p><ul><li>Aimed at students in their eleventh year of schooling (typically JC Year 1 / age 17) enrolled in Singapore schools.</li><li>Participation is by school nomination, upon invitation from MOE each November.</li><li>Two rounds: an initial theory test, followed by a practical test for shortlisted students.</li><li>Medals and Certificates of Merit are awarded to roughly the top 10–25% of participants; all participants receive a certificate of participation.</li><li>Medallists are interviewed for further training by NUS and NIE, with a "Final Four" (plus reserve) selected to represent Singapore at the IBO.</li></ul>
