About this opportunity

<p>Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) runs a structured volunteer programme supporting its 24-hour Hotline (1767) and 24-hour CareText (WhatsApp) services for people in crisis or suicidal distress. Volunteers receive comprehensive training in active listening, empathetic response, and risk assessment to provide emotional support to callers and texters.</p><ul><li>CareText volunteers must be at least 18 years old; Hotline volunteers must be at least 23.</li><li>Commitment: around 3–4 hours weekly, including one overnight shift per month for service-based volunteers.</li><li>Training includes the Be A Samaritan (BAS) Programme, self-paced e-learning, classroom learning, and role-play assessment.</li><li>Selection involves a volunteer briefing, the BAS programme, and a face-to-face interview.</li><li>Applications are accepted year-round; interviews and training run on a regular schedule.</li></ul><p>Interested volunteers can submit an application through the SOS website or email pv@sos.org.sg for more information.</p>
