About this opportunity

The Fryer, Galois and Hypatia (FGH) Contests are CEMC / University of Waterloo's full-solution secondary-school mathematics contests, run concurrently by grade level. Unlike the multiple-choice Pascal/Cayley/Fermat, students must write out complete solutions — useful practice for university-style problem communication.

Fryer for Grade 9, Galois for Grade 10, Hypatia for Grade 11; motivated younger students are welcome to write up.

4 questions in 75 minutes, scored out of 40; mix of final-answer and full-solution items.

Solutions are graded on completeness, clarity, and presentation, not just the final answer.

2026 contest date outside North and South America: Thursday, 2 April 2026 — the day after the Euclid Contest.

Written on paper in-school under supervisor-arranged proctoring; some calculators permitted.

Top performers earn Certificates of Distinction; top international scorers appear on the International Honour Roll.
